Dear band students and parents,
The school closures due to COVID-19 present us with a unique challenge and opportunity for our bands. I have not yet planned specific lessons for the students, but I hope that this time allows for students to practice instruments at their level and continue to improve in their musicianship.
In preparation for E-learning, I ask that band students take the following actions as soon as possible:
1. Enroll in our Google classrooms using your school email. Students should be able to go to “Add a class” and type in the following code to enroll: 8th Grade Band: aqm7lgt
6th Grade Band: 3wgdj4h
2. Enroll in SmartMusic. Go to https://admin.smartmusic.com/join , and you’ll enter your school email address and a class code to get started. 8th Grade Band: VCQZJ-GUXJX
6th Grade Band: XDPUZ-X66DQ
3. Make sure that they have their instruments at home. I do expect that many activities will involve their instruments, so every student must have their instrument.
4. Make sure that they have their full band music, band book, and other music materials (i.e. scale sheets) at home.
Students, if you are unable to enroll in the Google Classroom, please email me right away at [email protected] It is my hope to use this platform for much of the E-learning, but I’ll plan to adjust if there are too many issues. Keep me updated!
If students do not have their instrument/music at home, please make arrangements to pick those up on Monday. The school will be open during regular hours. If students have lost music or don’t have something, please email me right away. I’d be happy to make copies for you to pick up on Monday, or I could scan and email them to you on Monday if needed.
At this point, no official decisions have been made regarding our upcoming performances. I would imagine that we’ll have a better idea of what April will look like after spring break, so I’ll touch base with all of you when I know more.
Hang in there, everyone. A lot is up in the air right now, but we’ll figure it all out together! Don’t be afraid to ask questions, and I’ll do my best to get things answered as soon as possible. Take care of yourselves!
Thanks,
Michele Carnahan
